Description
Wood Turtle (Glyptemys insculpta) Egg 3D-printable files
Wood Turtles (Glyptemys insculpta) are semi-aquatic reptiles known for their intelligence, distinct sculpted shells, and strong connection to clean, fast-flowing streams and surrounding woodlands. Between late May and June, females leave the water to search for well-drained, sunny nesting sites along gravel bars, sandy riverbanks, or clearings to lay their eggs.
Unlike the round, ping-pong ball-shaped eggs of snapping turtles, Wood Turtle eggs are distinctly elliptical and smooth. A single clutch typically consists of 7 to 14 soft, leathery white eggs. These semi-permeable eggs allow the developing embryo to exchange gases and absorb moisture from the surrounding soil during their 60 to 80-day incubation period.
Like many freshwater turtles, young Wood Turtles face high predation rates, and females can take over a decade to reach sexual maturity. Because habitat loss and illegal collection have impacted populations across their northern range, every successful nest is vital to the species’ survival.
This free 3D printable STL file represents a single Wood Turtle egg at life-size scale, measuring 36.70 mm in length and 22.30 mm in diameter. The smooth, elongated shape makes it easy to print and ideal for educational displays, dioramas, and life cycle demonstrations.
The file is provided in STL format and packaged in a .zip archive, ready to print and paint.
