Description
Spiny Softshell Turtle (Apalone spinifera) Adult Female 3D-printable files
This 3D printable Spiny Softshell Turtle (Apalone spinifera) model is a highly detailed representation of one of North America’s most unique freshwater reptiles. Known for their pancake-like appearance and leathery shells, Spiny Softshells are built for speed and stealth. This model specifically depicts an adult female, which is significantly larger than the male, often reaching carapace lengths of up to 50cm.
The Spiny Softshell gets its name from the small, cone-shaped projections (spines) located on the front edge of its carapace. Unlike “hard-shelled” turtles, their shell is covered by a flexible, leathery skin. They are masters of ambush; they often bury themselves in the sand or mud at the bottom of rivers and lakes, using their long, snorkel-like snouts to breathe while remaining completely submerged. Their streamlined bodies and webbed feet make them incredibly fast swimmers.
The 3D printable, digital files are in STL format packaged in a .ZIP archive. They’re scaled to life-size and ready for you to print and paint them.
This adult female Spiny Softshell file is scaled to have a carapace length of 48cm, which is near the upper range for this species, but still appropriate for a large female. Since it is so large, it will require you to split it up into parts in your slicing software to print it at full size.
