Description

Blanding’s Turtle (Emydoidea blandingii)

Blanding’s Turtles (Emydoidea blandingii) are a charismatic freshwater species found in Southern Ontario through to the United States surrounding the Great Lakes. Known for their distinctive appearance and gentle nature, these turtles have become a symbol of wetland conservation efforts. Blanding’s Turtles are easily recognized by their bright yellow throat and chin, extending down the neck, a domed, helmet-like shell with yellow speckles on a dark background, and a perpetual “smile” due to the upward curve of their mouth.

Sadly, Blanding’s Turtles are considered threatened and even endangered in parts of their habitat. They face numerous challenges, including habitat loss, road mortality, and illegal collection for the pet trade. Their long lifespan (up to 80 years) and late maturity make population recovery a slow process, emphasizing the importance of conservation efforts.

The 3D printable, digital files are in STL format. They’re scaled to life-size and ready for you to print and paint them.

This Blanding’s turtle carapace length is about 19.2cm long, which is around average for this species.

The files are packaged in a .zip archive for ease of organization.
