Description
Blanding’s Turtle (Emydoidea blandingii) Egg 3D-printable files
Blanding’s Turtles (Emydoidea blandingii) have a nesting strategy that often takes them on long journeys. During late May and June, females leave their wetlands to find sunny, well-drained spots with loose soil or gravel. Because they are very picky about where they lay, they may travel more than a kilometer away from water, often crossing roads to reach fields or embankments.
A female uses her back legs to dig a flask-shaped hole where she lays about 8 to 15 oval, leathery eggs. These shells are designed to breathe and absorb moisture from the ground during the summer. The sex of the babies depends on the heat: warm nests (above 30°C) produce females, while cooler nests produce males.
One of the most remarkable things about Blanding’s Turtles is how long it takes them to grow up. A female often won’t lay her first batch of eggs until she is 20 or even 25 years old. The eggs hatch after about 10 to 14 weeks. Unlike Painted Turtles, Blanding’s hatchlings usually do not stay in the nest for the winter; instead, they emerge in late summer and head toward the nearest water or thick vegetation to hide before the first frost.
This free 3D printable STL file represents a single Blanding’s Turtle egg at life-size scale, measuring approximately 35.3 mm in length and 23.8 mm in diameter. The smooth, elongated form is quick to print and well suited for educational displays, dioramas, or life cycle demonstrations.
The file is provided in STL format and packaged in a .zip archive, ready to print and paint.
