Massasauga Rattlesnake Tail Rattle
This 3D printable rattlesnake tail is fun way to learn about how rattlesnake tails function because it actually rattles just like the real thing! Modeled after the Massasauga Rattlesnake’s tail, which is the only venomous snake in Ontario, this unique design is perfect for anyone who loves the beauty and wonder of these fascinating creatures.
No assembly required. In fact, the way that the individual tail sections interlock means it would be impossible to print in parts and then assemble afterward.
The 3D printable, digital files are in STL format. They’re scaled to larger than life-size for ease of printing and ready for you to print them.
The files are packaged in a .zip archive. This package includes files for the rattle with handle as illustrated in the pictures on this page as well as a handle-less version in case you might want it.
Our tested print settings: FDM
We successfully printed this model in PLA on an FDM printer using these settings:
- Nozzle size: 0.4mm
- Layer height: 0.1
- Wall thickness: 1.2mm
- Infill: 10% grid
- Support material: True. (Tree support)
We oriented the model upright. Be careful to make sure that support material makes contact with the bottom of each segment of the rattle, otherwise they will be floating in space. We used a tree support structure for this and it worked well.
