Description

Eastern Foxsnake (Pantherophis vulpinus) 3D-printable files

The Eastern Fox Snake (Pantherophis vulpinus) is a large, nonvenomous constrictor native to the Great Lakes region of North America. Found primarily in southern Ontario, Michigan, Ohio, and parts of the Midwest, it’s one of the region’s most impressive native snakes. Despite their size and striking appearance, these snakes are harmless to humans and play a vital ecological role by controlling rodent populations in wetland and agricultural habitats.

Eastern Fox Snakes are named for the mild, musky scent they can release when threatened. This is a defensive behavior that, to early observers, resembled the smell of a red fox. Their coloration ranges from golden brown to tan, with bold dark blotches along the back and a yellowish belly patterned with black. They are often mistaken for rattlesnakes due to their markings and tendency to vibrate their tails against dry leaves when alarmed, but they lack venom and are far more likely to flee than fight.

This 3D printable model depicts a life-size Eastern Fox Snake measuring approximately 1 meter in total body length. The body is sculpted in a natural resting coil, with detailed scalation, smooth contours, and anatomical accuracy true to the species. It’s suitable for display, educational exhibits, or natural history collections, offering a realistic representation of one of North America’s most misunderstood reptiles. At 1m total length, this model is a little small (so that it fits on more printers). For an average sized Eastern Foxsnake, print it at 139% size. For the Ontario record size, print it at 218%.

The digital files are provided in STL format, packaged in a .zip archive, and ready to print and paint.

Our tested print settings: Resin

We successfully printed this model in white resin on an LCD 3D printer using these settings:

  • Layer height: 0.05mm
  • Hollowed: True
    • Wall thickness: 2mm
    • Infill: 10%
    • 2mm drainage holes on the bottommost curves of the body when oriented with the head pointing upward.

Feel free to use these settings as a guide or use your own preferred settings. They’re just the settings that we used when printing.

Due to the nature of resin printing, you will have to determine your own exposure settings because they are different for every brand of resin and printer.
