Description
This 3D printable Elephant Bird egg model is an awesome addition to anyone’s large curio cabinet. Just like the real thing, it is BIG. For this reason, it also requires a pretty big printer to print it at full size (30cm tall, 23cm wide).
Elephant birds are an extinct species of flightless bird that once lived on the island of Madagascar. They went extinct around a thousand years ago but remains of their eggs are still occasionally discovered, and a few complete eggs are currently housed in museums around the world. It’s next-to-impossible to acquire a real elephant bird egg, but now a replica is only a 3D-print and some paint away!
This replica is inspired by images of the real elephant bird egg specimens. We used these reference images to create the sculpt as accurately as we could.
The 3D printable, digital file is in STL format packaged in a .zip archive. It is scaled to life-size (30cm tall, 23cm wide) and ready for you to print and paint it.

Our untested print settings
We have not test-printed this exact model yet but we have had success printing a previous iteration in PLA on an FDM printer using these settings:
- Nozzle size: 0.4mm
- Layer height: 0.2
- Wall thickness: 1.6mm
- Infill: 5% grid
- Support material: True (concentric)
Feel free to use these settings as a guide or use your own preferred settings. They’re just the settings that we used when printing.
We'd love to see your finished elephant bird eggs! Please share them with us on our social media:
