American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) 3D-printable files
The American Bullfrog is one of the largest frog species in North America and a familiar presence in ponds, marshes, and slow-moving waterways. Recognized by its deep, resonant call and impressive size, the bullfrog is an adaptable amphibian found from southern Canada through much of the United States and beyond, where it has been introduced to new regions.
Adults are powerful predators, feeding on a wide range of prey—from insects and crayfish to smaller frogs, fish, and even birds. Their broad heads, muscular hind legs, and smooth green-to-brown skin give them a distinctive appearance. Males can be identified by the size of their tympanum (eardrum), which is noticeably larger than the eye.
This 3D printable STL model captures the American Bullfrog with attention to anatomical accuracy, making it a useful piece for education, display, or naturalist collections. It is scaled to life-size and includes the fine details of skin texture and body form typical of the species. This particular model is of a 12cm SVL female, which is within the natural size range for bullfrogs. You could print it at 125% size for a larger specimen that’s at the upper size limit for a female of this species.
The files are packaged in a .zip archive and provided in STL format. Once downloaded, they’re ready to print and paint.
Our tested print settings: Resin
We successfully printed this model in white resin on an LCD 3D printer using these settings:
- Layer height: 0.05mm
- Hollowed: True
- Wall thickness: 2mm
- Infill: 10%
- 2.5cm drainage holes on the underside of the belly and legs.
Feel free to use these settings as a guide or use your own preferred settings. They’re just the settings that we used when printing.
Due to the nature of resin printing, you will have to determine your own exposure settings because they are different for every brand of resin and printer.
