Description

Banana Slug (Ariolimax) 3D-printable files

The Banana Slug (Ariolimax spp.) is one of the most recognizable land mollusks of the Pacific Northwest, often seen gliding slowly through damp forests in shades of yellow, green, or brown. With their elongated bodies, slimy coating, and deliberate pace, they play an important role in forest ecosystems by breaking down decaying plant material.

This set includes two 3D printable models of a Banana Slug in different natural resting poses: one in a smooth “C-curve” and another in an extended “S-shape.” Both files capture the slug’s soft body form and subtle surface textures, making them suitable for display, educational use, or naturalist collections. The slugs are within the natural size for this species but you could print them smaller or larger (up to 25cm) and still be within the realistic size range for this species.

The digital files are supplied in STL format, packaged in a .zip archive, and are ready to print and paint.

This is a great beginner model for those new to model painting. Just paint it yellow and add some spots and eyes for a convincing replica slug!

Our tested print settings: Resin

We successfully printed this model in white resin on an LCD 3D printer using these settings:

  • Layer height: 0.05mm
  • Hollowed: True
    • Wall thickness: 2mm
    • Infill: 10%
    • 3mm drainage holes on the underside of the model.

Feel free to use these settings as a guide or use your own preferred settings. They’re just the settings that we used when printing.

Due to the nature of resin printing, you will have to determine your own exposure settings because they are different for every brand of resin and printer.
