Sea Lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) 3D-printable files
This 3D printable Sea Lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) is a great way to display a fascinating and primitive marine predator. The Sea Lamprey is a jawless fish native to the Atlantic Ocean, infamous for its unique parasitic lifestyle. Instead of jaws, adults possess a distinctive, funnel-like suction mouth lined with concentric circles of sharp, horn-like teeth and a rasping tongue. They use this specialized oral disk to attach themselves to host fish, rasping through skin and scales to feed on their fluids. This striking adaptation makes them both an ecological marvel in their native habitats and a destructive invasive species in the Great Lakes, completing a highly unique life cycle as they migrate up freshwater rivers to spawn and die.
The 3D printable, digital files are in STL format. They’re scaled to life-size and ready for you to print and paint them. This Sea Lamprey model is 45cm long, representing a realistic, true-to-life size for an adult specimen.
The files are packaged in a .zip archive. This package includes files for the complete, posed Sea Lamprey model, as well as an unposed straightened version.
Our tested print settings: Resin
We successfully printed the posed version of this model in 2 halves on a resin-based 3D-printer using these settings:
- Resin colour: Transparent
- Layer height: 0.05mm
- Hollowed: True
- Wall thickness: 2mm
- Infill: 10%
- 3mm drainage holes placed in a few spots along the body and on the cut edge (Where the halves would eventually glue together).
Feel free to use these settings as a guide or use your own preferred settings. They’re just the settings that we used when printing.
Due to the nature of resin printing, you will have to determine your own exposure settings because they are different for every brand of resin and printer.
