Description
Humpback Anglerfish (Melanocetus johnsonii)
The Humpback Anglerfish (Melanocetus johnsonii), also known as a Black Seadevil, belongs to the Deep-Sea Anglerfish family. This 3D-printable model lets you showcase one of the ocean’s most bizarre predators. These deep-sea fish use their eerie bioluminescent lure to attract unsuspecting prey in the pitch-black depths. Their enormous, tooth-filled jaws and stretchy stomach let them consume prey larger than themselves, making them one of the most nightmarish creatures of the deep. But don’t be scared! Despite their devilish appearance, these fish stay surprisingly small. The largest females reach only around 15 cm long, while males measure just 1.5–1.8 cm.
The 3D-printable digital files come in STL format, scaled to life-size, and ready for you to print and paint. This model represents the much larger and more recognizable female form of the species.
The files come packaged in a .zip archive. Currently, we include only a solid model, but we plan to add a split version with separate fins (and maybe even jaws) for easier printing and painting. If we update the files, customers with a personal use license can download new versions as we release them.

Our tested print settings: Resin
We successfully printed this model in clear resin on an LCD 3D printer using these settings:
- Layer height: 0.05mm
- Orientation: Face down with the chin as the lowest part facing the build plate
- Hollowed: True
- Wall thickness: 2mm
- Infill: 10%
- 3mm drainage holes in the belly and roof of the mouth.
Make sure there are no supports in areas within the model that you wont be able to remove, like in the gills.
Feel free to use these settings as a guide or use your own preferred settings. They’re just the settings that we used when printing.
Due to the nature of resin printing, you will have to determine your own exposure settings because they are different for every brand of resin and printer.
