Description
Ferruginous Pygmy Owl (Glaucidium brasilianum)
The Ferruginous Pygmy Owl (Glaucidium brasilianum) captivates with its fierce hunting skills and presence throughout the Americas, from the southern United States down to Argentina. Despite its diminutive size, typically only 6-7 inches in length, this owl boldly preys on insects, small mammals, and even other birds. The name “ferruginous” reflects its beautiful reddish-brown plumage, which seamlessly blends into the wooded and scrubby habitats it frequents.
These owls possess bright yellow eyes that stand out against their rust-colored feathers and a relatively long tail, aiding in identification. Unlike many other owls, Ferruginous Pygmy Owls are diurnal, remaining active during the day, particularly at dawn and dusk. Their distinctive call, a series of short, repetitive whistles, often echoes through the forest. Known for their fierce and fearless nature, these owls aggressively defend their territory from much larger birds of prey.

Our tested print settings: Resin
We successfully printed the body of this model in grey resin on an LCD 3D printer using these settings:

- Hollowed: True
- Wall thickness: 2mm
- Infill: 10%
- 3mm drainage holes on the top of head and inside of the leg slots.
We oriented the body so that the head was down (towards the build plate) and the feathers were pointing away from the build plate.
