About the Egg Collection Poster app
Make your own poster of bird eggs at true relative size. Pick the eggs, give the poster a title, and the app lays them out on the smallest standard print size that fits them well, as large as fits (up to twice life size). Tick Life size to keep the eggs at their real size instead. The scale is printed under the title, and the key lists every egg's length and width. Under Your download, tick what you'd like: the 300 dpi silhouette poster (as in the preview), the matching illustrated poster with coloured eggs, and the 3D-printable egg files. You pay once for everything you tick.
Mounting sheet mode. Turn this on to make a sheet for displaying real 3D-printed eggs. Every egg is printed at life size, with a small pin mark at its widest point, and the egg shapes take the poster's background colour so they disappear once the eggs are on. (You can still pick a different egg colour if you'd like faint outlines to line the eggs up with; choosing another colour scheme makes them match the background again.) The number and key stay, so you know which egg goes where. The 3D-printable egg files are ticked for you, with a 1 mm pin hole modelled into each egg at that same point. To mount them: print the sheet at 100% / actual size, glue it to foam board, push a pin through the board from behind at each mark so the point sticks out, and press each egg onto its pin. The README in the egg files lists each egg's number and where its hole is.
3D-printable egg files. One STL file per egg, life size in millimetres, made with the same egg-shape model as the SaviMade Egg Generator, plus a README that matches each file to the numbers on your poster. Tick Modelled drilled hole for eggs that sit on the mounting sheet's pins. You're welcome to print, paint, give away and sell the eggs; please credit “Egg geometry created with the Savi Made Egg Generator (savimade.ca)” whenever you show or sell them publicly.
Egg shapes. Each outline is drawn with the same egg-shape model as the SaviMade Egg Generator, set to the species' average length and width and its typical end shape, so the outlines match the 3D-printable eggs exactly.
Egg sizes. Mostly from A. C. Bent's and C. Bendire's Life Histories of North American Birds (averages of measured museum eggs), with the Cornell Lab's All About Birds and other published sources where Bent has no average. The sources used for your eggs are listed in the poster's footer. Sizes marked * are approximate.
Egg colours and markings (for the illustrated posters) are drawn from published egg descriptions, mainly the Cornell Lab's.
Using your poster. Your poster is yours to use however you like: print it, frame it, give it away, share it online, use it in teaching or sell prints of it. Unlike the 3D models in the Savi Made shop, it isn't limited to personal use. The one condition is that the footer text must stay on the poster exactly as it is: readable, and not cropped, covered or edited. It credits the app, the illustrations and the sources of the egg sizes.
