Description

This 3D printable Redside Dace (Clinostomus elongatus) is a perfect educational tool for teaching about Ontario’s endangered species. Redside Dace are named after the beautiful bright red stripe that runs down their side that makes them look almost tropical in appearance, like something from a pet store. Redside Dace use a unique feeding strategy where individuals literally leap out of the water to catch airborne insects hovering above the water’s surface. How neat is that!? They’re the only minnow to do this.

Unfortunately, the Redside Dace is a species-at-risk in Ontario, where its stream habitats are often degraded by human activity. Their population declines in Ontario, Canada, have landed them on the endangered species list.

These 3D printable, digital files are in STL format packaged as a .zip archive. They are scaled to life-size and ready for you to print and paint them. The archive also includes a file for a 3D printable stand.

This Redside Dace is about 76mm long from the snout to the end of the caudal peduncle (the tail before the tail-fin starts), which is the average size for an adult male.
